    Medicaid Transportation

Transportation Services for Children With Seizure Disorders

Reliable, safe transportation removes one of the largest barriers to consistent PPEC attendance. For families across Miami-Dade and Broward, Medicaid-funded non-emergency medical transportation makes daily PPEC realistic — even for working parents and single-parent households without their own vehicle.

    How Medicaid Transportation Works

Florida Medicaid contracts with transportation brokers — including Access2Care, ModivCare (formerly LogistiCare), and Verida — through each managed care plan. When a child is authorized for PPEC, the family schedules recurring round-trip rides with their plan's broker. Vehicles range from sedans with booster seats to wheelchair-accessible vans and ambulances depending on medical acuity.

Safety Considerations for Children With Seizures

Children with active seizure disorders should ride in vehicles where the driver or attendant can recognize a seizure and follow the documented rescue plan. Blessed Pediatric Care provides each transportation provider with a copy of the seizure action plan and pickup/drop-off communication procedure, so any breakthrough event in transit is documented and the family and facility are notified.

For higher-acuity children — including those with tracheostomies, oxygen, or frequent generalized tonic-clonic seizures — Medicaid may authorize ambulance or stretcher transport rather than sedan service.

    Pickup Areas We Serve

Daily transportation routes serve Miami Gardens, North Miami, Opa-Locka, Hialeah, Miami Lakes, Aventura, North Miami Beach, Doral, Hollywood, Hallandale Beach, Pembroke Pines, and Miramar. Average one-way ride times range from 10 to 35 minutes depending on the originating ZIP code and traffic.

Blessed Pediatric Care serves families across Miami-Dade and Broward County from our Miami Gardens facility at 4715 NW 157th St, including Miami, Hialeah, Opa-Locka, North Miami, Miami Lakes, Aventura, Doral, Hollywood, Hallandale Beach, Pembroke Pines and Miramar.

    What Families Need to Do

Once a child is admitted, our intake team provides families with the exact phone number for their managed care plan's transportation broker, the standing-order language to request recurring rides, and a contact at Blessed Pediatric Care for any service issue. Most families have transportation in place by the first week of attendance.

    FAQ

    Medicaid Transportation: Frequently Asked Questions

For Medicaid-eligible children authorized for PPEC, yes — there is no family cost for non-emergency medical transportation to and from the facility.

Some plans allow a parent or designated caregiver to ride with a young child. Policies vary by plan and vehicle type; our intake team confirms before scheduling.

Drivers and attendants are instructed to safely stop the vehicle, notify EMS if the seizure meets the action plan criteria, and contact Blessed Pediatric Care and the family. Rescue medication administration in transit is restricted to providers credentialed for it (typically ambulance or stretcher service).

Most morning pickups begin between 6:30 and 8:00 a.m. depending on route length and managed care plan policy.
